The Principality

It has come to my attention that the Government of the Principality is not exactly working out as it was designed. Too big of a legislature has failed in conjunction with too much inactivity, and simply put, the governmental process cannot be carried out.

So, as Executive, I have issued out several statements over the past few weeks about the matter, the first time this was issued, my constituents likened it to a hostile takeover (perhaps echoing the events that were happening in the Middle East at this time) and disapproved wholly. But when I explained that less than half of the legislature had even made a comment on any legislation, they saw my point and swiftly changed stance on the matter. So far I have support

I have proposed that we write a new Constitution in full. Though it will be significantly changed, it will still keep many of the same basic principles. Such changes shall include but will not be limited to a unicameral legislature, a Judiciary, and a few concessions from my own office. Elections will probably change too.

We are currently putting to a simple majority vote, and will have a decision by the end of the week. I am confident though that it shall in fact pass.

My fellow citizens,

I am pleased to announce that elections were by and large successful, and although voter turnout was significantly low, it was about what was expected. Many of our statesmen ran unopposed, but we had a few contended races in the Royal Assembly and even a challenger to the title of Executive. I was also pleased to find that we have not one, not two, but four political parties established in the Principality as of today! (The Whig Party, Populus Pro Licentia, The Principal Party, and the Party of Lincoln) And from these new parties also discovered the first big issue facing Principal politics. It is a major concern which side of the Pike is more important. An interesting topic, considering that the government meets on the forum online...

But with the success comes a few drawbacks. Not all the offices in either house are filled. Only five or six ran for representative in the General Assembly, and each went unopposed. Therefore, in an Executive Order, I am going to appoint the rest of the unfilled seats in the Assemblies. I will be sure to cross party lines in my appointments (though I am friendly to all parties, I caucus with the Whigs) and will use my discretion in choosing only the best to govern the Principality.

And speaking of Executive Orders, my next matter of business is this: It has come to my attention that several of the more immature micronations out there have been declaring war over petty disagreements. In the micronational world, declaration of war is seen as a threat emptier than a leaky bucket threatening to hold water, and a childish gesture. Therefore, I hereby announce that in a second Executive Order, I will declare an act of condemnation over the Democratic Environmental Society of Senya for the Society's blatantly juvenile threats of military action. I will consult my Minister of Foreign Affairs about this soon, and we shall draft this order sometime over this weekend.

I will also reaffirm that I uphold the Constitution of the Principality in an Oath of Office within the week, along with the rest of the Government's offices. ¡Viva el Principado!

Regards,
The Honorable Grant Lemasters
Prince Regent & Executive of the Principality

Good evening all.

I've recently released Royal-Executive Order 001, hereby instigating a series of special elections running from this past Sunday to the 29th of this January to fill up government seats. Currently, the seats needed to be filled are eight Counts in the Royal Assembly and sixteen representatives in the General Assembly. I also am running for reelection to Executive Office largely unopposed (except for one Baron Michael Sagan), and expect to claim victory this week. Please if you have not registered on the forum and are a citizen of the Principality, please do so and vote for anybody you want (But try to keep things within your district!)

I'd also like to announce that the Principality has reached a pretty big milestone: we have exactly forty citizens today! Thank you all so much for registering citizenship in the Principality; this has made this experiment wildly successful so far!

Regards,
The Honorable Grant Lemasters
Prince Regent & Executive of the Principality

Greetings from the Principality!

Any blog posts here come directly from the Office of the Executive, in the attempt of creating the most transparent government possible. My hope is to keep the citizens of the Principality up to date on all matters within the Principality, and address the most urgent matters or questions that anyone might have.

First things first: For those of you thinking this is where the government will be meeting, you have the wrong idea. I, along with a Committee of Online Affairs, am going to try to create a forum for the Government to meet and conduct business in. As soon as that site is fully functional, I will be holding special elections to elect the Counts and Representatives to the General Assembly. When the website is fully functional, my hope is that the citizens will run for office and then we can elect some people. If that doesn't work out as planned I'll have to resort to my powers as Prince Regent to appoint some counts and Representatives to the Royal and General Assemblies.

Secondly, I'd like to make it known to other micronational leaders that diplomacy is open! So far I have established connections with Yabloko and the North American Confederation, and my hope is to make alliance with these nations official as soon as we can. If you represent a nation that would like to establish diplomatic relations with the Principality, please refer to the contacts page, listed above.

Sincerely,
The Honorable Grant Lemasters
Prince Regent & Executive of the Principality
